My Hair Shedding Experience
I want to share something personal with you because lately, I’ve been hearing a lot about hair shedding from my clients, and I realized I went through it myself not too long ago.
At the beginning of this year, my plate was very full. I was running not just my hair business but also a food truck business at the same time. My days were long, sometimes 16 hours and my routine was all over the place. I was sleeping maybe 4–6 hours a night (if that), barely eating one meal a day, and just trying to keep up with everything.
That’s when I started noticing more shedding. At first, I didn’t think much of it. I was washing my hair less, so I figured that maybe the extra hair coming out in the shower was just “catching up.” But every time I conditioned my hair and brushed it after, it was clear something wasn’t right. It was a lot more than I was used to seeing.
The truth was, my body was under so much stress even though I didn’t recognize it at first. My sleep, my diet, and my stress levels were all completely out of balance. I was taking vitamins here and there, but I wasn’t really fixing the root of the problem.
Everything changed once I stepped away from the food truck and went back to a normal routine. Within a month of eating my full meals again, getting proper sleep, working out, and actually managing my stress, my hair shed nearly cut in half. And here’s the crazy part: I didn’t do anything “extra.” No new products, no miracle vitamins, just taking care of myself again.
Looking back, I wish I had been more mindful about slowing down and delegating instead of pushing myself to the edge. But I also think it was a big lesson your hair is often one of the first places your body shows you that something is off.
I know many of you have been telling me about your own shedding experiences, and I’ll be sharing more about that in another post soon. I also have a few product recommendations and habits to keep an eye on that I think will really help.
For now, I just want you to know: if you’re going through something similar, you’re not alone. Shedding happens, but your hair is always talking to you and it’s worth listening.
